With hundreds of weddings under our belt, we’ve seen a multitude of wedding ideas and budget techniques.  Some are worth their weight in gold.  Others can cause more problems than they are worth.  The planning phase of your wedding is a vital part of making your wedding a memorable event.  To assist you, Hawaiian Style Event Rentals has curated a few ideas that we’ve seen couple pull off perfectly.  We’ll cover ideas to avoid in part 2 of this blog.

Welcome Bag

Having your guest travel to Hawaii for your wedding typically requires travel arrangements.  A neat way to thank them for their efforts is to create welcome bags for them.  Some items to include are:

  • A personal thank you note
  • An island itinerary
  • Helpful items for the trip
  • Keepsakes from Hawaii

Small touches like this can ingratiate your guests to you further and make your special day even more memorable.

Signage

Small to large signs that welcome guest or give personal messages can be a delightful way to spice up a wedding.  If you have a friend or family member that has an artistic flair, why not recruit them for this aspect of your wedding.

Guest Book Twist

Instead of a standard guest book, why not get your guest to print and sign their names to a digital device.  Next, have your professional photographer(s) capture a variety of pictures throughout your event.  When you are going through your wedding images you can send short digital image collages to your guest entitled their “Signature” moments which features their signature and a thank you for the memories.

Personalized Items

With today’s technology, there are so many ways to create personalized items that do not require a large amount of time to create.  With a little creativity, you make use of software that allows you to print personalize notes, cards, menus, and programs.  There are also a variety of DIY wedding item instructionals you can view on Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube.

Whatever you are planning, it is important to never do everything yourself.  Having a team of professionals behind your efforts can help you to reduce stress and enjoy the special moments during your wedding.

Among some of the most visually appealing weddings that we have seen are Mandap weddings.  In traditional Hindu and Jain ceremonies, a mandap is basically a covered structure that is similar to a gazebo.  They come in many designs, shapes, and styles as is almost always the centerpiece of the wedding.  At Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, we’ve found that Mandap weddings are a perfect match for the natural beauty found throughout Maui.

Mandap Ceremony

Along with its beauty, the mandap symbolizes much about the family of the two being joined in matrimony.  For instance, the four pillars are representative of the two sets of parents presenting their children to be wed.  Part of the ceremony includes the exchange of garlands (floral arrangements typically placed around the neck.  This exchange is a symbolization of acceptance by each party of the union.  Afterwards the couple is seated on lavish chairs and their parents sit beside them as religious rites are performed by a priest.

Mandap Decorations

A primary part of the décor is floral arrangements.  This is yet another perfect match for Hawaii.  Natural flowers of all varieties are available throughout Maui, making this part of the setup easy.  The Mandap is placed on an elevated stage which adds prominence to the structure as well as providing an easier visual point for all the guests.  The Mandap is beautified with a large selection of flowers, bells, pots, statues, and familial/sacred items.

Modern Mandaps

While traditional mandaps are stone structures that are immovable, modern mandaps can be constructed to meet the needs of Hawaiian destination weddings.  Our team can customize constructed mandaps with ground lights, chandeliers, curtains, mirrors, vibarant colors and numerous objects.

Are you imaging your Mandap wedding in Hawaii?  Give our team a call and tell us about what you are visualizing!  We’d love to help your dream wedding become a reality.

There are a variety of wedding vendors.  Nevertheless, all wedding vendors are not truly skilled in the trade.  With the advent of the internet, it has become much easier to create a virtual storefront for business.  This makes it difficult for people to differentiate between wedding vendors.  If you are in the market for acquiring a wedding vendor, you’ll definitely want to know some of the signs of how to select a great vendor.

At Hawaiian Style Event Rental, we want you to be confident in your decision of wedding vendor.  Below are a few points of insider information about our industry.

Research Your Vendor

Some wedding vendors have lengthy “About Us” sections that sound convincing.  However, upon closer inspection, you may find that the information is boilerplate.  Why?  It is harder for vendors to go into depth about subjects that they are unfamiliar with.  Hence, they see similar content and copy it.

Still, researching a vendor goes beyond just looking at their About Us section.  Most weddings have significant costs, so you’ll need to check the references of the wedding vendor to protect your interests.  A thorough investigation could include:

  • Asking Questions. Most clients do not make a personal trip to Hawaii before the wedding to vet their chosen vendor.  If this is your situation, you can give your prospective vendor a call.  During that phone conversation ask plenty of questions.  Ask about their experience, their background, their specialties as well as their prices.  Write down what they tell you so that you can verify it later.  Additionally, ask for references that you can call (any respectable wedding vendor should have clients that would happily endorse them).
  • Verify References. Along with checking online review sites for specific information from customers, call the list of references the vendor provided.  When calling the references ask when they had their wedding, how they felt about the vendor’s usefulness, and if they think the vendor was worth the cost.
  • Business Organizations. Find out if your vendor is connected to any professional wedding planning associations.  Also, see if they are registered with the State of Hawaii.

Using these simple tips can help you to avoid hiring the wrong vendor, which could cost you time and money.

In the first part of this two-part blog, we covered why chairs, tables, and dance floors are essential rental items for Hawaiian wedding and receptions.  Our team at Hawaiian Style Event Rentals has assisted hundreds of couples in realizing their perfect island wedding.  In this blog, we’ll cover 4 more items that you should check off your list months in advance of your wedding day.

Linens and Napkins

Most Hawaiian weddings have a certain décor and theme that runs throughout the chairs, tables, tents, and floral arrangements.  The linens and napkins can be a delightful continuation of that theme.  Consequently, you would not want to leave these as a last-minute secondary decision.  We offer an ever-growing range of linens of various types.  Additionally, we have:

  • Chair Ties
  • Napkins
  • Table Runners
  • Tablecloths
  • Tent linens

If you have a question about a particular style of linen or a different use you would like to employ for one, feel free to call us for details.

Lighting

If you are having a wedding or reception in the evening outdoors, renting the right lighting is critical.  Lighting canopies, tents, dance floors, walking paths, trees, and photography areas can change the entire aura of your event.  Lighting also works as its own décor when it is given the right amount of attention.  For instance, we’ve seen clients arrange lighting near fountains, mirrors, and linens that amazed their guests.  We’ve also setup overhead lighting inside tents, tree lines and dance floors that captured the imagination.  The right amount of lighting also helps your guest to remain safe as nightfall begins.

Specialty Decor

Sometimes a unique, eye-catching décor piece can enhance the feel of your wedding or reception.  This is particularly the case if you have a theme.  Such items add a personal touch to the identity of your wedding.  We offer several specialty items like tiki torches, wine barrels, vintage milk crates, Hawaiian outrigger canoes,

Bird cages, fire pits, lace votives and more.  Do you have an item in mind that isn’t on our list?  Give a call.  We may be able to secure what you have in mind.

Lounge Furniture

Giving your guests a place to lounge, relax, and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii is a gift in itself.  So be sure to secure lounge furnishings that accommodate the size of your wedding.  Take a look at our selection to see which furnishing would work best for your theme.

Planning a wedding requires foresight.  Hence, we always encourage our clients to secure rental items at least two to three months beforehand.  If you want your wedding to run smoothly, you’d definatiely want to get the following particulars in order.  Hawaii Style Event Rentals features all of the items on this list that will be covered over the next two blogs.

Tents

If you are going to make use of the outdoor beauty Hawaii has to offer, you’ll need to protect your interest.  Although Hawaii is known to have great weather, anything can happen.  Even if it doesn’t rain, unusually hot weather is not unheard of in our era of global warming.  Keeping you’re your guest comfortable and protected from rain, blazing sun rays, and powerful wind gusts is a priority for any outdoor Hawaiian wedding.  We have an assortment of tents that are customizable for weddings of all types.  We also provide tent accessories that are useful to improving privacy, décor, wind protection, and stability.  Regardless of the size of your wedding, we have solutions that can help.

Tables and Chairs

Without question, chairs and tables are a staple need of any wedding and its associated ceremonies.  People need places to sit and areas to place things.  Still, much more is involved than just the utility of sitting and placment.  Décor plays a vital role in maintaining an aesthetic theme.  Since chairs and tables are a necessity, it only makes sense to make them a part of the décor.  To help you in that endeavor we ‘furnish’ (pun intended) a variety of chairs and tables for thematic purposes.  When browsing our selection be sure to take a look at our farm tables which are quite useful for large weddings.

Dance Floor

If your indoor venue does not furnish a dance floor, you still can enjoy a nice dance party.  Placing a dance floor outdoors gives a unique feel to your reception.  There’s nothing like dancing outdoors in the open beauty of Hawaii, especially if you have a beach view.  Some of the images that our clients have captured using outdoor dance floors are simply amazing.  Take a look at the dance floors we have to offer.

Using Smart Phones To Their Potential

Every year people invest in the latest and greatest smartphones.  Many of them have capabilities that few get to utilize regularly.  You can change that by incorporating your guests’ smartphones into the occasion (let’s be honest, they are going to use them anyway).  With a little imagination and tech help, you can intertwine smartphone usage into your event.  Some ideas that may work well are:

  • Geo-caching for hidden event treasures
  • Hosting a trivia game playable via smartphones
  • Conducting a poll during the event via smartphones and having the results posted to a larger screen
  • Using apps like Crowd Mics can allow the audience to engage by turning their phones into microphones (great for Q&As and meetings)

Interactivity

Are you looking to engage your audience instead of having them sit and watch?  If so, you can easily make use of technology to captivate your attendees.  At Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, we’ve seen clients use holograms, digital videos games, VR experiences, and other high-tech approaches to liven up the event.

Using these strategies gives the audience a fresh approach, even when the subject matter is similar to things done in the past.  Another advantage of using technology during your event is that it encourages innovation.  Approaching your event from a technological interactive perspective can set a precedent and get your attendees excited for the next event.  You may even locate technology sponsors for your event if you think of effective ways to use their products.

Ever since the eruption of the Kilauea volcano, questions have arisen about the safety of traveling to Hawaii.  As an area business, located in Maui, we are about 118 miles from the site of the eruption.  Some of our friends that visit us form the Mainland have contacted us to ask about our well-being and the safety of traveling to the island chain this summer.  Hence, we thought it would be a great idea to post a blog about it—Q&A format.

Q: What areas were affected by the eruption?

A: The immediate areas surrounding the volcano is the main area affected by the eruption.  These residential areas around the volcano are nowhere near the places tourist of the Big Island tends to stay.  There are approximately 2000 residents that were evacuated from the area around the Volcano.

Q: What about the earthquakes?

A: So far, the earthquakes have been isolated to the epicenter of the Kilauea volcano.  The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has yet to issue any threat of tsunamis due to the quakes resulting from the eruption.  (We are keeping our fingers crossed on this one.)  The good news is that typically earthquakes decrease in frequency and magnitude as the volcano releases pressure.

Q: Are the northern islands safe?

A: They are.  Our team is located on the island of Maui which is northeast of the eruption.  Here the air quality drops a bit when the northern gust occurs, but other than that the island is clear of danger.

At Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, we look forward to being able to assist our neighbors south of us on the Big Island and welcome visitors to the area this summer.  If you are planning to visit Hawaii, please stay abreast to official government reports to remain safe.

Hawaii is a tropical paradise.  People from the world over visiting Hawaii are astounded by its beauty.  Hence, it’s no surprise that many choose the islands as the perfect place to get married.

At Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, we’ve had the pleasure of assisting couples with constructing beautiful tropical weddings.  Are you considering Hawaii as a location for your wedding?  If so, you may want to see how to infuse tropical concepts into your theme.  Below are few ideas that we’ve seen and helped couples with.

Floral Accents

When tastefully designed, flowers bring natural delight to any wedding.  Flowers do not have to be confined to a bouquet or a table centerpiece.  With a little imagination, you can set up a number of captivating floral arrangements.  For instance, we seen some wedding use:

  • Floral arrangements around fountains
  • Overhead flowers within tents and arches
  • Flowered wall backdrops
  • Flower pedal walkways for the bride and groom
  • Pedal designs on the beach
  • Staircase floral arrangements
  • Flower fruit accents
  • Floral chandeliers

Of course, these are just a few ideas.  Keep in mind that flowers can be utilized virtually anywhere.  In Hawaiian culture, flower garlands, called “lei” and floral headpieces known as haku are commonly in weddings.

Hawaiian Music

The feel of Hawaiian music can give a different feel to an event—especially when it is hosted in Hawaii.  You may be amazed at the selection of traditional favorites, renditions of famous songs, and modern music available via musicians on the islands.  The ukulele, slack key guitar, and native performers are fun ways to add Hawaiian flavor to your wedding.

Your wedding is one of the most memorable and important days of your life.  At Hawaiian Style Event Rentals, we have helped our clients to set up weddings that are range from traditional to theme-based.  Whichever choice of wedding you have, our team can help you to incorporate some of the trending wedding concepts of 2018.

Décor

Last year, many wedding planners and event designers were choosing soft colors and pastels.  This year, there has been a dramatic shift.  Deep and full colors like burgundy, navy blue, chrome, gold, and silver have caught the eye of many.  Even if these are used as accents, they can change the appeal of your wedding décor.

The Aura

In 2018, bohemian styles have begun to take center stage.  This style plays well with the Hawaiian atmosphere.  You will be amazed at the range of rental items that we have available which can work for nearly any wedding.  We can help you to change the aura of your wedding into one that is unique and memorable.

The Details

The more you look into the details of your wedding, the more unforgettable it will be.  Therefore, “sweating the details” is a good trend 2018 in bringing.  Some of the details that some are using to make their weddings etched memories in the minds of your guest include:

  • Table decorations. Try a collage of images that you have of your fiancé, your families, and friends.
  • Chair décor. There are so many ways to change the aura and décor of your wedding by accenting your chairs.
  • Individualized invitations. It is easy to mail off a bunch of copies of invitations, but making individual ones that share personal thoughts really touches the heart of your guests.

Selecting the right date for your wedding can be time-consuming and nerve-racking.  There are several working parts to consider which could play a part in your selection process, such as:

  • Family and friends. If you are planning to share your special day with those you love, you will obviously need to pick a date that works well for your group.
  • Wedding theme. The weather in Hawaii is pretty moderate; however, summers do have occasional sweltering peaks during the day.  This is important to consider if you are going to have an outdoor wedding.
  • Budget. If you are trying to cut down the costs of your wedding, you’ll definitely want to plan your date carefully (we’ll discuss more about this below).

Over the years, our team at Hawaiian Style Event Rentals has acquired a knowledge of the islands and weddings.  If you want an incident-free and relaxing wedding, you may want to avoid the dates below.

Spring Break Madness

Unless you enjoy large crowds of young college-aged individuals everywhere, you may want to try a different time for your wedding.  Traffic can come to a screeching halt on the islands during Spring Break and finding accommodations (particularly quiet romantic ones) could be nearly impossible.  Newlyweds will likely find it difficult to explore and enjoy the island atmosphere during the crowded party atmosphere during these dates.

Holidays

If you want to significantly increase the costs of your wedding, choose a holiday wedding.  Rate increases will include hotels, catering, flights, entertainment, and local events.  Demand for all services during the holidays skyrockets throughout the islands.  To stay within a budget cross-off all major holidays including local Hawaiian cultural days which also attract a lot of tourists.
